Has anyone had any trouble installing a Quaife to a Escort 4 Speed?

I just bought one after the orignal item lower plastic ball disinterated.

I can screw it into the hold and it screws in tight. But the gear leaver is all sloppy and does not seat correctly on the selector rod. When you push it down 1 cm you can change gears but does not stay there just springs back up into air selection again.

Any idea. Yes selector is the right way around with the notch to slot in.

Thanks
Andrew

Make sure you have the little plastic saddle fitted. Sounds like it might be missing.

The plastic Saddle is there but not complete like the Burtons one. The side bit is knocked off it.

When I measure them togeter it almost looks like the Quaife shaft is about 1cm to short to go into the selector housing.

I have had a couple of these sticks and never had a problem.

I have never had a problem before either.

There is a 60mm gap between the top of the selector shaft to the top where the screws stops screwing.

Can someone tell me if this looks correct. It is almost like the selctor shaft is upside down?

Measurement at 60mm

Measurement of the quick shift only 50mm of length inside the extension housing

I see your problem straight away. The factory RS short shift spacer is still on the box!

Unscrew that and then fit the quaiffe stick and you will be away.

Thanks Gdub.

Is that the top colar that needs a 48mm + spanner on it?

I never even saw that before. Have to go and but a shifting rench big enough for that tomorrow. Most I have is 30mm.

Many thanks. Will let you know how I go.

Thanks Gdub.

After buying big pipe rench and jacking the gearbox up to clear the inside of the car. Got it off. Quaife is fitted. But rattly like they are suppose to be. Didn't realise how much.

Cheers
