My son was cleaning the exhaust threads out, and on the last hole we broke the tap. Any ideas,how to get it out.As i dont want to take the head off again

If its fairly close to the surface, I've just used a small punch and hammer to "unwind" it out in the past.

Is there enough protruding to attach a crosspiece with a welder?

No nothing sticking out, and cannot get a punch on to it.

Not sure what they may be called over your way, but we have the thread doctor who will come out and remove it for a fee. He will retap thread as well.

I have had a great deal of success with using an arc welder to build up a knob on the end of the tap until it sticks out far enough to grab it with a pair of vice-grips.just be careful not to weld it to the head!!! Hope this helps!!! Phil
