I am just fitting up the car after a resto and had taken mega images but need to know,
I have the rubber bushes in place and the alternator sitting there but it doesn't look quite right as there is an extension bush protruding from the rear mount section of the alternator which puts a gap between the front mount and rubber bush in the mount casting,

is there something missing?

the metal bush can be pushed back into the housing and that should line it up with the bracket. position the alternator beside the engine freehand so that the pulley belt line lines up roughly and that will give you an idea how much the bush has to be moved.

All of the above and then put a big flat washer on the firewall side of the alternator bracket - so it doesn't slide forward.

The bush you are saying to not back into the housing of the alternator is already flush with the other end and if I do that then the bush inside the rubber bush in the mount will alter then,but I thought along the lines of washer spacing it as well but this does not look as if its been modified

Anyhow I have other way and used a bunch of spacers.

Neoprene bottom control arm bushes, space the alternator forward enough.
I have found two bolts holding the alternator on the mount, don't like each other with engine vibrations.

I have replaced the Lucas with Bosch as well as any auto electrician I spoke to advised to spend a bit extra on Bosch and bin the Lucas one. Then it just needs to be spaced accordingly to suit the pulley line up.Is that Hiltons mk1 in the background?
