OK - the car is getting close to coming back on the road. I'm putting the interior together and am putting the sound system in. I'm looking to avoid drilling holes in the body for an aerial.

New cars don't have them so what is the secret?

I've seen ones that stick horizontally along the back window (bit ugly and reception not great by all reports). I've also heard that you can get a receiver which sits behind the dash - I'm assuming this has a connection that goes to the aerial connection in the head unit of the radio/CD/MP3 player.

I've googled but come up with nothing.

Any ideas welcomed - I have toyed with the idea of bending a coat hanger in the shape of Australia, but the plastic ones you buy today don't bend.

Theres a "Stealth" one that sits on your dash, haven't installed one before so cant comment on quality but any local Autobarn can get the products for you....

hmmm looks like it doesnt need to sit on your dash.

They have stick on arials, that look like the demister on the rear window. They are good for tv reception aswell.

That's just the amplifier which needs a 12V supply. You'll still have to run an antenna wire from it across the car somewhere.

Thanks for posting this up, I was wondering how to get around this too after removing my antenna

The rear screens have a demister on the lower section, and the antennae is on the top section. They are also amplified.
The earlier models have 2. One normal and the other in the rear screen. The radios switch between depending on which is getting the better signal bounce.

I retro fitted a stick on arial to my front screen back in the day!

David,

With one of mine I rang the coax to the rear of car and fitted an aerial length ways along the rear parcelshelf but on the underside so it couldn't be seen. Worked a treat.

Just ground the ant. wire. Use your whole car for an arial?

Lol.

You get feedback though the speakers when running the engine.
New Falcons have the arial behind windscreen rubber.

Anyway who needs a radio?

The sounds of your escort should be sweet music in itself. [:o)]

david,

Mine is gone, what i did was connected the aerial to the big metal dashboard with a cable running along the back of it. works fine.
