You wont fit 8's on the front. Spacers are no good and illegal. In my opinion (having being thru all of this) look for a different wheel thats more suitable, its not worth the hassle to end up with nothing but an unroadworthy car.

It all depends on the tyre size you choose and offset.

A 205/50-15 fits pretty well all around on +12 offset - maybe just catching on the front guard when turning.

So if your 17" wheel and tyre has the same rolling radius as that, and remains at a 205 width, then you should be fine.

I've gone to 225/45-16's on a +4 now, and they do not fit on the rear of a standard car (have tried it - thanks Avon) and required much front lip/apron and footwell/inner guard cutting to make fit on the front on full lock.

Some quick calcs:
205-50-15 rolling diameter = 586mm
205-40-17 rolling diameter = 596mm

Stay with a +12 offset, and the 17 might fit with a little tweaking of the front spoiler/apron lip.

Just remember, the bigger the diameter, the higher the car will sit unless you lower it more, which then reduces your travel.

well.. like it or not it's not going to be roadworthy as such. Twin sidedrafts, lowered, wheel track, no booster, various missing emissions.

I would hapily go 15's if i could find a decent wheel, 16 would be great if once again i could find a decent wheel.
I want black spoked.

Why don't you make discrete inquiries of the motor vehicle registering authorities in your State to find out what size wheels you are legally allowed to fit to the car. If you comply with the relevant requirements you might save yourself a great deal of money and not fall foul of the law.

i know in victoria you are only allowed to have rims that are 2 inches bigger than the biggest option from factory, so by law here you can only run 15's

In W.A. you have to comply with VSB14, which is meant to be a national standard.

It doesnt state a maximum wheel diameter, just that the overall wheel/tyre diameter must not increase by more than 15mm over the largest factory fitted wheel/tyre combo. So if your tyres are lo-pro enough, you can run big diameter rims.
