Hi all

It has been too long since I was here. Life is busy.

I am trying to spend some time on my Capri to fix some issues. One being the noise in my diff that I have tracked down to a wheel bearing failure and not the diff center.

I ordered new wheel bearing from my local auto supplier but they were not the right size and didnt have the o ring seal. They rang the supplier and double checked and they were the correct bearings according to the listing.

So my question is.........What is the diff in my V6 Capri? Can you guys who know please look at the pics attached and tell me if this is or is not a V6 Capri diff or why I cannot find the correct bearings.

Thanks a million guys

Damien

It's a standard v6 diff
Just take the old bearings down

I would have taken in the bearing to measure it but we cut it off with the oxy so it was toast

I already asked them if I can bring in the bearing from the other side to match it and the bearing supplier seem to think that it was too hard

I think I will take it to a bearing specialist rather than a bearing supplier

Thanks for the confirmation that it is a standard v6 diff.

Wonder why the bearings dont match the listing? Then again if they cant match the size of a bearing sample then Im not so surprised......

other issue is the size of the snap rings supplied in the kits now-they are too wide and too thick. I assume this is an Imperial to Metric change over.  To get the correct snap ring, as for MK2 Escort RS2000 ones.  Using the supplied ones foul on the axle tube and you cannot seat them.

Try a 16283 bearing. Think that’s it from memory. But the slip ring needs modifying.

Advance bearings Blacktown have them in stock. They ship the same day. Best bearing supplier I’ve been too. They also supplied in 24hrs the diff bearings all of them. They pulled their catalogue and asked me questions which is welcomed.

Update

Received new bearings from CBC bearings today

F206AKIT

CBC KIT2742

People have asked me for dimensions so here goes:

Axle 30mm Dia where bearing seats

Old bearing on axle
62mm OD
21mm Thick

New bearing
62mm OD
29.9mm ID
21mm Thick

New Retaining ring
29.9mm ID
46.1mm OD
9.57mm Thick

Old retaining ring
??? ID cant measure installed on axle
46.1 OD
8.9mm Thick. Difficult to measure on axle. Also has a chamfer

So as you can see this confirms what other have said about the issue with the retaining ring being too thick and it doesnt have a chamfer to match the old ring and the axle tube. I presume i will need to find a friend with a lathe......

Update

Some IDIOT with a grinder (me) cut into the axle shaft while attempting to removing the old bearing. I have been advised that it would be unwise to use it. I am now searching for a replacement passenger side axle for V6 Capri. If anyone can help me out I would be grateful.....
