A few more phone pics...the pistons and rods are now united...although may need to be seperated again to open up the rod bigends another .001" to help reach the desired clearances. Almost there

Teflon coated??

Not sure if it is actually teflon but is a friction modifying coating. It is std on Cosworths new piston designs.

Cheers,

Phil.

Made a bit more progress today, front crank seal carrier and aux shaft seal carrier fitted, oil gallery plugs installed, cleaned up some parts for zinc plating, fitted one rod and piston temporarily , fitted up std pulleys ready to fit timing belt for deck height checks and piston to valve clearance checks. Fitted internal block breather shield. Modified waterpump to clear long studs.

Looking great Phil, good to see some more progress. Just one thing you might want to check with your rods, when my engine builder checked one of my argo rods for my zetec, it had a slight twist big end to little end. Argo were very good about it and replaced it, but it is worth checking.

Cheers Guys

No issues with the rods thankfully, it amazes me how well finished things are these days...the pistons were perfectly matched to the gram, the rods are perfectly on size...down to 10ths of a thou, the crank is spot on size for the bigends and mains, also down to the 10th of a thou.

It still suprises me how long it is taking to do the assembly...by the time everything is triple checked each step takes 4-5 hours[:u]

Hopefully it results in many trouble free reliable years of usage[%]

Its almost done[:p]

The bottom end is now just waiting on the rods to be surface ground to create a little more side clearance...then just to install the pistons and rods and close it up. The piston to valve clearances are also checked and all ok, the new inlet cams have close to 50% more lift than stock cams which created some concerns about whether the new 37mm inlet valves would clear the pistons and if the lobes would clear the head. If all goes well, should be done by the end of next week, then just to paint the block and get it in the car

Fit the engine and drive? What other things need to be done?
