Top stuff Phil.
The strut brace will be good once it's finished.
The cage will effect handling with a strengthened body shell.
You will be surprised how it changes the feel of your ride on the road.

Good to see your getting ready for that 10 second pass
Have you thought about getting a ANDRA tech inspection? before you paint the cage.
Powder Coat the cage - normal car paint wont stay nice for long.

Hi Mark,

It should be a bit of an improvement over the old cage considering the tube is thicker and there is extra bracing involved[:p]. I will end up painting the cage in 2pak same colour as the car,my last cage was painted in 2pak and the paint was ok,I think the key is to keep sharp objects away from it[%]

Do Andra need to inspect the cage before it is painted?

Ahh so there is such a thing as a tube notcher, I had wondered how the neat little notches were done [:o)]

Looks like a top cage Phil, do you mind me asking who you bought the kit through ? And i notice that you didn't take the roof lining out, was there any issues there ? I thought it would have had to come out to avoid any potential 'bush fires'

Hi Damion,

The cage is from Andrews Race Cars in Seven Hills. You dont need to take the headlining out as long as you are careful and protect the area you are welding. I am replacing the hoodlining in any case but it can be done with leaving the hoodlining in

Years of practice are only just coming to fruition now[(#)] The key is to get the settings on the machine right before you start...loads of penetration without blowing through is just right.The rest is practice and a good welder[:p]

Practise is starting to pay off just wasn't taken chances with anything structual.

The tube notcher is a JD2 unit from the US.They are advertised on ebay usually[;^)] Though I would hold of buying one at the moment with the $$ the way it is[%]

Cages are more fun when you can find a bird to tape it to. powder coat wont come off when your ready to set it free again.

No, but when you start doing 9's the paper work about the cage is necessary. and they wont approve the welds if they are covered.

Even if you a nice guy that will sigh off your welding to be approved to be street driven. won't be Andra approved, having the inspection with Andra first is enough proof it's good enough for the main roads.

O yea roof has to be removed[(#)]to make welding the cage in easier
