Does anybody have any tricks on how to get the head off a pinto? its stuck!! all ten studs are out, I can lift the thing off the ground and it still wont let go, obviously I'm reluctant to go stuffing a screw driver in between them and risk damaging the surface.

Can you get it back in the car or bolted to a stand? Used an engine crane with even pressure front to back and gave it some with a rubber mallet last time I had a stubborn one......

+ 1 for the FBH.  Put a block of wood on the head first and then go to town.

Good luck.

Can you rotate the crank and let the compression push it off?  Else a FRBH.

Lever bar in engine lifting eyelet has always worked for me, I leave at least1 bolt loosely in because when it does come off it may just turn into one uncontrollable piece of cast iron.....if don't have the lifting eyelets bolting your inlet manifold back on and using it as a lever will work too. If you want to be rough c*nt stick a lever bar(break a bar) in one of the ports .......

Take the plugs out if you havnt already, lump of wood in the port and smack the end with a hammer, I have put a couple of studs in loose before to ensure it doesnt just fly off! Good Luck!

Reminds me of when I was a youngun. A mate and his father were doing head swap on an old mazda FE engine. couldn't separate the head and block of th 3espare engine which was to donate its head, tried everything so bolted chains to block and head and pulled at each from different directions with an EA and XF falcon. Managed to turn 2 sets of tyres to smoke to no avail, was a thing to behold I swear. ended up being a missed headbolt. I still laugh to this day about it. Like I am now.
