The Other Half
Hey Guys,
I thought I'd start a little side thread from my build thread to show how I've gone about my rear diff upgrade. I'll be running the R31 disk upgrade. So I'll show where I've run the lines, brackets and other little bits added.

It's not complete yet however I have a quick question for those in the know. Due to the Tran X halfshafts being ever so slightly longer the disk doesn't sit neatly in the centre of the caliper. I've added a washer which has made the gap about 40%/60%. This should be fine right?

Being a floating calliper it should be fine.
I have some extra gold plated 2.5mm spacers if it will help centre the rotor better? Might look nicer than washers too :-)
Free + postage if suitable.

Well It's all been installed. Here are some photos of the handbrake mechanism. This was the head scratching bit. I used most of the standard R31 handbrake mechanism. I had to lengthen the standard cables from the calipers to the centre bit. PM for the exact measurements if you're interested to save you some time. I'll be pulling it all out and painting the diff housing etc to finish the job. I'll post photos when I do.

Cheers

If you could send me the measurements when you get around to it. Cheers!!
The handbrake setup all looks pretty new from the pics.. where did you source it new? Or did you clean everything up and replace/refurb items individually?
Conversion looks great! Nice choice on the shocks as well

Standard r31 h/brake cables can be used without lengthening.

It's funny how thins work out.  I am doing this conversion right at this moment too.

What did you use to join the handbrake to the cable splitter dealie?  I was thinking of using the original cable and just getting a plug welded onto it.

Good work, it's looks nice and neat

Cheers,

RS2000: Yes, however the length chosen will depend on your setup and clearance from other items like exhaust etc. I was going to get new lines anyway and I wanted heat sleeve put on mine near the exhaust. So I thought I'd extend a little in the process.

There are a few other little things that need to be done to make everything work flawlessly which I'll send via PM if required.

No worries EVO. Yes the handbrake cable from the splitter are new. The splitter I just cleaned up. Calipers are fully overhauled with new parts. Bracket is from Paul Dunston. I like, new, painted and shiney ;)

Matt, I'll PM you :)

The other half, of course, there is many ways to do something and achieve similar results. However you posted that you had to lengthen rear cables, this can be taken as 'its a must' when it's guite the opposite, standard cables fit perfectly. I also run r31 brakes and have 3 inch exhaust with possibly bigger muffler and it all clears nicely. Also I consider using off the shelf r31 cables a benefit.
Good work tho cars coming along nicely.

Any chance of some pics of it all with the 3 inch exhaust as i'm struggling to find room for mine. I have the disadvantage of 45degshocks though.
Thanks, Shaun
