Hi all, sorry for the rush of questions lately!
I purchased a mk2 1976 escort which has a mk1 borg warner diff inside. The brakes are off a twin cam rs 1600. I was given a bag of 'bits' from the previous owner of which I cannot seem to find a logical position for the springs which I thought would be straight across from one pad to the other.
I could potentially have both the wrong springs and pads. SMCKA is down, my browser seems to think its malware so I can't access their website.
If anyone has any details on the RS1600 rear brake system such a picture or places to purchase the parts that would be really appreciated!

Post up pics of what you have and we can have a look.

Here's a few pics of a mk1 brake set up that should give you an idea.

Cheers,

Matt

The guys at sprints got in those wheel cylinders above but they weren't the right ones. They are supposably off a RS1600 mk1

Matt75 those are mark 2 brakes not mark 1.
Matt in ADL has the correct brakes for a mark 1. The springs go top and bottom arcoss the drum. IIRC the longer is at the bottom and shorter at top. Just sold my last mark 1 diff so no can send pictures sorry.

Malware? Some wa**er hacker got into the site and messed things up. Some folks need to get a life

Cant understand why anyone would put MK1 brakes on a MK2. The MK1 brakes are smaller

They probably swapped a whole diff in including brakes. Mk1 brakes are the same size as early mk2 brakes as in 8". Only later mk2 had the 9" drums. Mk1 twin and rs1600 had 9" drums, but mk1 rs2000 went back to the standard mk1 size of 8".....

Yep, thats exactly what has happened. Would anyone happen to have a diagram of the assembly?

The thing I don't understand is that the longer spring has two 'half hooks' which suggest that they go through the 2 smaller holes closer together. There is very little tension if you go straight across. The one with the spring which is single 'coil' fits anywhere but the double coil is a nightmare to fit.
