Gidday,
Am presently fitting a Zetec engine  to an Anglia Wagon with a steel case Toyota gearbox.
The car is a friends pride and joy as his weekend toy.
It will hits the Drag Strip periodaclly hence the Toyo gearbox, I want it tough and reliable.
The engine initially will show 160HP with 200 as a latter target. What I'm after is some lateral
thinking as to a suitable diff to use other than the Hi-Lux unit. Also an LSD centre.
See what comes up.
Les.

8 3/4 falcon diff with two short axles. I have a drum brake diff here if you want to cut it up.

Why not the hilux?
There is the V6 Atlas(if u could find one),Ford courier or depending on budget you can always try a TranX LSD
Its no good for the road but you could always lock/weld an english diff, to get around breaking axles what you do is weld a brace to the bottom of the diff center housing, bend it in so its under load and weld it as close to the end of the axles as you can get. It takes the flex out of the diff, works quite well

Sorry 'Rsman4ever' but your statement how to 'get around breaking axles' made my best laugh this week..... that would be how to stop the housing breaking or bending in a full on rally car. The English axles do not break due to housing 'flex - they break at the splines due to the power/torque being put through the vs grip. If you can break the axle by diff flex then you have more major problems... LOL. You can get an English axle to survive 160hp but you need to be sympathetic in how you treat it - drag style launches could NEVER be called sympathetic to a diff - hence the requirement to go something a little more 'robust'....

Other suggestions are the Mazda E series commercial did centres out of their dual (small) rear wheeled vans. They came in ratios suitable for drag/rally too.... Not sure exactly how strong they are but they were popular 10-15years ago in all sorts of live axles 4cyl car conversions. I would go the hilux or the BW. The BW is available from Falcons as well as R31 Skylines and Pintaras as well as some earler Commodores so you have a selection of widths, axles and centers....

No need to apoligise glad I cheered you up, its just something ive seen the before and after results on and I think it works. I used to belong to a Gymkhana club during the early 90's and it was a popular thing to do.

cheers
