I am new on the forum, come from yorkshire.  I have a few old fords a prefect e93a an Anglia 105E i co own with a mate and three kit cars all running ford engines of one type or another.
   I have just purchased a kit car with a ford 1600 x flow engine fitted, it was a non runner, we just started it after work tonight. Not Good  Basically it clattered and banged alarmingly. We wiped the head off a huge lip and mate drained it and dropped the sump no 3 shell as spun and the crank on two big end journals looks evil.
   Now at my fathers is a 1100 xflow from a mk 2 estate( 40 00o miles laid  under the bench for no good reason, i have sourced  a 1300 crank and  bare block   Can i fit the crank from the 1300 with appropriate shells into the 1100 engine thus making a good complete 1300 with no further changes, Any advice please.

I think your problem will be that the 1300 block is taller than the 1100 block to accommodate the extra stroke. Compare the height of the two blocks.

Blocks are the same height for sure, 1600 is taller. Not sure about con  rod length of the 1300 compared to 1100. and distances from gudgeon pin to piston crown.  Basically will it work without totally striping the engine. bear in mind i only have the 1300 block and crank main caps etc no rods or pistons,  and 1 complete running 1100. so is it practical. ?  Been searching the nett for answers there seems to be conflicting opinions. 

I Ended up striping the 1100 completely the 1300 crank does fit and 1100 engine and  in fact 1300 blocks are identical from what i could tell.  I dial gauged the piston  tdc to block face height as standard and after fitting the 1300 crank with the 1100 pistons and rods the pistons came up  about 4mm  higher.
   I fitted the  scrapped 1600 slightly dished cylinder head compared to the dead flat 1100 one, and it started straight up and seems to run fine. Booked the car in for test tomorrow night. Job done super cheap.
  So now you know a 1300 crank will fit an  std 1100 with no mods, i only fitted the 1600 head because i wanted to try and keep the compression ratio as low as possible.
