Had a crack at the hole in the firewall during the week and have found that it goes from the fusebox on one side all the way to the same position on the other side.

I am pretty sure that it will also be rusted badly under the heater plenum as well.  I'll try to get that off next weekend and see how bad it is.

I am in 2 minds as to whether to -

1.              fix it myself (although I have no idea on how to weld).  I wouldn't mind having a crack as I will learn a lot and there is satisfaction from doing something yourself.

2.              pay someone to do it.  Although then you don't know what sort of job they will do or how long it    will last.

3.              Just buy a new shell that I don't need to repair.  Then I can get a 2 door either MK I or MKII that will be pre 1976 so I won't have to comply to the newer ADR emissions laws. This will be hard to find and probably the most expensive option with no guarantees thhe new shell will be better than mine.

Decisions decisions.

Hey mate,

Just reading post about the firewall in your 4 door, ouch! I've got a Mk2 2 door pre-pollution shell which you might have seen for sale, needs work but maybe not as much as yours. It's in the parts section we can remove any parts you don't need and adjust the price accordingly, give me a call if your interested 0414 674 400.

Cheers Daz

Things have been very quiet for a while but now the hotter weather is here I can get things rolling again.

I got a cheap 3.89 rebuilt diff head off ebay so am rebuilding mine and will do rear disc conversion as well.

Cheers
