Matt,
The reason why you had issues with h brake is the fact that you hadn't bled your brake first.if you bled them first and providing you made sure both caliper levers are resting on their stops you would have instantly had an 'ok' h/brake.

However to get best h/brake performance this is what I do.I always set up and adjust handbrake leavers on each calliper before attaching the cables. You do it so that both levers are resting on their stops and have no pad actuation but actuate pads with as little as 5-8 mm application of leavers( this is achieved by removing the leaver from caliper and turning the rachet mechanism opposite direction of normal actuation and then back until you reach a spot where the lever is at its stop but actuates pads with minimal movement). You then bolt up levers and attach the cables to the lever. Next step is to adjust the h brake cable as tight as possible without offseating either of the levers from their stops. If this is done no handbrake pumping is required and provides best hand brake performance.

All sorted. Bled the brakes and after a couple of small leaks sorted I am reasonably happy with it. Slightly spongy pedal which I suspect may be the M/Cylinder. Can still lock them up though. I also want to make an adjustable pushrod so I can adjust the height of the pedal to better heel and toe.

Took it for a drive and all is good and I can even hear the engine noise now that I have a diff that makes no noise. Also the acceleration has increased markedly with the 3.89 diff too.

The arse is still too high so I'm looking forward to when I get the springs so it all looks uniform.

I got a bit happy with the sandblaster and did the wipers but I painted them gold!  Not sure I like it but what can you do.

Hopefully it behaves itself tomorrow night on the RSOC Vic January Cruise.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Mate,

Car went very well.  I was cautiously optimistic and all was good.

I have a knock in the front left suspension somewhere that I need to chase down but other than that I was very happy indeed.

How'd the g/box installation go?

Cheers,

Matt

Rear springs should arrive any day now!!!

In the mean time the next project is to install the FIA Kill Switch and remove the key ignition to push start.  I also wil wire up an accessory & Fuel pump switch.

The good thing about the FIA Kill Switch is that it immediately kills all electrics and stops any damage being caused to the alternator when it's turned off.

I have made up an alloy fascia plate to go in place of the ashtray and once I get the ignition switch I'll get it power coated of just paint it black.

I will then need to work out how to wire it all up.

Cheers,

Matt
