The time has finally come to get the wheel turning on this project. Returning a 1980 MKII RS 2000 to standard spec.
I've chosen this objective over an engine conversion or heavy mods. to achieve an original RS. I figure that most RS Escorts out there have been changed to varying degrees.
This one will be finished with original interior and exterior, including all stripes and decals.
Having said this though eventually the Pinto will get some tender loving GRUNT.

History of the car:
The car is a genuine Lemon Lime, Aus MKII RS2000 4 door. I purchased it in Tasmania in 1994. It found it's way to Adelaide later that year with me where it was a daily driver till 2000.
The car was in fairly good condition as most old Tassie cars are due to living inland from coastal conditions.
It has rust in the usual Escort areas. ie. C pillar, rear windscreen, and rear wheel arch due to guard roll. Heater area is ok but needs further investigation.
The engine had all the usual mods, cam, carbies, all emission gear and covers removed etc. etc.
It had wide RS style rims and sunroof as well.
Still grappling with the sunroof. Not overly happy with it, but not too keen on removing it!

The car was heavily defected in 2000 and has remained this way till now. JUNE 2008

First job is to reinstall all emission standard carbies, standard head, and go over worn suspension components, brakes and the like.

This is the project as it begins.

It will be a medium term project, but it's now underway[^]

Car in '94 shortly after I bought it.

It was defected for wheel offset. But had no emission, side draught carbs, no cam cover. The engine number on the block had several digits crossed out, so they also seized the car for the forensic cops to look at.
When I got the car back I slapped all the standard gear on it, but could never get it to run properly.
A mechanic at the time said there was an internal engine problem.
This all developed between going for the rego inspection and the trip to the mechanics!!!!
Gave up on it and put it in storage.

The current task is to get it registered.

Looks like a tidy car to begin with. I like the sunroof, I'd keep it if you can.. As for those seat covers [B)][B)][}:)][88]

Don't be put off with incorrect numbers and the like, if you have proof of legitamate sales its fine. I had a few numbers which were incorrect but it was all fine.

Seat covers MOOOOOOOOO![8~2]

No its good to see another RS being restored to original, but for everyday driving, power and emmissions, I am going with the VCT duratec.

Most people don't want the hassle but once a VIN has been classified as written off or the like you can get a police number, well you could in the past, don't know how it would go today as they are trying to push old vechiles off the road.
