Cheers for the help Robert and PJ. I'll have another crack at it tomorrow and try levering the clamp bit up as I undo the bolt.

And PJ you're right about the pain in the azz bit. That'll learn me to hold on to the damn screw next time! Maybe I should chuck an electronic ignition setup in it while its out so I won't have to worry about points again.

.....Try the dizzy too; lever it up so it starts to come out as the bolt is unscrewed, it is likely jammed in....Agree to the "pain in the azz"...It would not be an Escort unless you had this, ha...Good luck Pete!

I got the bugger out. Recovered the screw, and put it back in while it was out of the car just in case I dropped it again! Gave it a clean while it was out too.


You were right about it being a pain in the azz. But its all back in now, and it looks like it might be somewhere near where it needs to be too. Fingers crossed that it all works ok when the new cap and rotor turn up.
