HI all
Putting the front end together for second time now using the spacers that came with the inserts. The only problem is the ride height less running gear is higher than most 4x4 at landrover park..
I have tried less spacer and strut nut didnt tighten up on shaft inside strut tops. Since put insert on top of shaft b4 strut top with nut on normal on other side of strut top.
Im running novalec fully adjustable tops. My other option is to have the spacer sit on top of strut top with the nut on but that would look stupid...
I know these motors and gearbox weight an absolute ton but , struggling to move front of car when standing on it...
Just hoping to get this problem sorted b4 it goes to paint shop.
cheers

I think some of those adjustable strut tops add around 25mm to the ride height, so that may be adding to everything.  The shocks shouldn't really effect the ride height that much once fitted, it will be more strut length and spring height.

Once the running gear is in it will look better, and you can make a judgement on whether you'd like lower front springs.

This spacer would add about 35mm to height but without it the strut nut wont tighten up on the top if that makes sense

Hi Matt,

I don't get on here often but had a look today and saw your post. I am running the same setup with the Noltec top mounts and Koni inserts. My car has been in storage for the past 18 months so I couldn't quite remember what I did, but I found a picture that helps - you may have to zoom in a bit!
It shows that the spacer is installed on top of the strut top, rather then underneath it.

Now my car hasn't been on the road to confirm how it works, but it looked right to me at the time.
Hope that helps.

Steve.

You should have no problems with the bonnet clearance, my bonnet closes fine. But just in case yours is different, test it 1st!!
Not much going on car wise for me over here. The Mk1 is still in storage while we wait to buy a house (with a garage of course - rare over here), so I have been collecting bits and pieces for it along the way. I just bought myself a 79 Mk3 GL 2.0 as a daily car which is fun. I hope to do a little work on it to use in track days with the Capri Club over here.

Cheers,

Steve.

Cheers Steve , Im thinking of getting a set of lower springs to offset the height gain you get with adjustable tops.
Hopefully it should level out to standard height maybe 1" lower.
Ive heard king springs sag after period of time but for the price $160.00
cheers

Adjustable strut top, spacer approx 25-30mm, then Nulock nut.

Be careful that your top spring saddle has enough rise for strut top contact plate to clear the bottom of your adj strut top, otherwise binds (strut wont rotate in normal opn).  ....A problem I had with my old Kmac adj. tops.

50% start setting is adequate.....
