New to this forum, so g'day

I've been looking around for a mk1 Capri to restore. It'll be the my first resto but I'll be doing it with my dad (who's done a complete resto on his 68 mustang).

I've been on sites like carsales, carpoint, ebay and have looked in justcars magazine (which had 0 capris this month!)..just wondering if anyone knew of any better places to look?

I'm hoping to put a 302w inside of it...that'll fit right?

Any other advice re: finding Capri parts like interior panels etc.

Thanks

Join the capri club in your home state, don;t rush in, do your homework.  Panels are hard to find and expensive.  Good interior trim is hard to find repro stuff is expensive.  Engineering V8's is getting harder, speak to an Auto engineer first

buy one already done !If you going to go down the v8 line dont ruin a perfectly good v6.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately I don't have the cash to buy one already done...plus learning about engines and cars is something I need to do so I figure this would be a really good way to do it.

gtv6capri, what do you mean by v8s getting harder to engineer?

I am a rookie when it comes to understanding cars/engines, but you have to start somewhere right

Seeing as though you want to do a V8 you would be better starting with a  1600 as they are cheaper and better to leave a V6 complete for someone else to restore as a V6.  There are a few 1600's on ebay right now in need of full resto.  They will all have rust but part of a resto is doing the body work anyway.  There's heaps of great stuff on youtube on panel repair.  I bought the DVD from this guy which is quite good.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGElSHzm0q8

In Queendland you can not rego a V8 Capri unless it was an original V6 now.
I know of a Capri with a K code being destroyied with a V8.

Help the old man out with his toy. Something will pop up.
Half done Carpi projects do appear for sale, they just don't hang about.
I know of Two Capri's in Redcliffe Qld for sale. $7k

Thanks for the tip mate, I'll have to give VIC roads a call tomorrow to see what's allowed.

Where are those two Capri's being sold? On a website or in magazines?

Thanks

If your budget allows you could try and find a Perana, will cost a lot more but will be worth a lot more when it's finished, and since its original V8 no engineering problems.  The hard part will be finding one though.
