Guys and Girls
on the young blokes 1976 mk2 1300 XL, we have replaced the standard dash with a mk2 ghia dash, thus the speedo has gome from reading a max of 200kph, to 220kph. At rest, the speedo needly sits on 10kph, and running on the freeway in traffic, it apears to be reading 120kph rather than 100kph. In these day of litigous speed cameras I would like to get it close, Is there a speedo drive gear that can be changed? or do I just track down a 200kpa ghia speedo, as the standard XL one is a different "font"
any help appreciated

cheers Ted

A worm gear drive inside the gearbox needs to be changed. Where the speedo cable enters the box.
Fordsy has spoken about it. Rs motorsport has a thread about it.

I'd have to pull the gearbox apart to change that or it can be accessed via the cable connection? Mine reads faster then what I'm actually doing (not a bad place to be)

Easy to do with the box in the car.
Using larger diameter tyres on the rear works.

Easiest solution is to swap the speedos between the dashes. If you put up a pic of the dash i'll see if ive got one where the fonts match.

Differences should be in the speedo drive gear in the gearbox, not the speedo dash itself... I have interchanged early and late before with no issues, although to be honest I have not checked for accuracy...

If you have a close look at the speedo in the dash itself - there are no drive gears - it seems to work by magnitism (or possibly black ford magic) with no gears... ie you can hold the speedo needle physically and it will not break anything (I pulled apart a dash years ago to see how it worked!)

Looking for this style of speedo that only goes up to 200 not 220. Glenn, I will check the diff ratio out.
