So what's the difference with the steering coupling sizes(apart from the obvious)? There are 3 sizes available for the Mk1 Capri, 13 - 21 - 26.5mm Urethane. Does this have any effect on feedback of the road conditions to the steering wheel, steering wheel vibration?  what's the go? Anyone got a theory? Or is it just a fit up variable?
Are they better or worse than the old rubber one? Are there any of the old style available anywhere?

Nolathane steering bushes are bad news, I'd rather use an old worn rubber or fibre coupling than nolathane. They start to decay after a short time and fall apart leaving you with very little response to turn if at all. Best to try adapt a Escort grp4 coupling or use some hotrod type if you cannot find new original parts. Ford rubber lasts 50yrs, nolathane might get you 50 weeks before danger starts.

Strongly recommend not using Nolathane or Urethane due to their limited life span and failures as mentioned earlier.  i am aware of the 1/2 inch felt in the earlier MK1's and a 1 inch rubber in the latter models.  You must replace with a similar thickness as this affects the overall length of the shaft and consequently correct shaft fitment. Also safety bracket must be reinstated on replacement. Both these sizes are available in rubber along with replacement uni joints.

Urethane is the type fitted  to my car and I think its about 13mm. Any ideas on where to start looking for the older style rubber felt type?

Ive used a superpro in my mk2 escort, I think some of the issues the urethane ones have are no bushings where the bolts pass thus eating into the rubber. The superpros have a bushing.

I tried a grp4 one but it was a bit short ( seems the bit coming from my steering rack is tiny). the grp4 one was about  100mm long so just ended up replacing the worn ford one with superpro. Will monitor its wear.

Martymexico and Johnscapris are spot on: Rarely can ORIGINAL parts ever be found to be inferior to spurious materials, when comfort and longevity are considered.
If circumstances require immediate use of car the until Original Parts are found, then other aftermarket materials or parts can fill in as a temporary measure, which should be replaced ASAP with "original" correct fabric/rubber parts.
 

Likewise guys. Got a Nolathane in the Crapi. And its been a while since I built it all but I do remember the lack of bushings as Robbie mentioned.
It only sees the occasional light of day. I will monitor it and note its condition over time.
