Just to throw something extra into the mix- have you considered using a Hilux diff- disc brake versions are common with a good set of ratio's available, but don't know about width. My brother fitted one in his mark 2 and only required a small of machine work and a couple of spacers to fit, Could b completely left field.....

The hilux diffs are the same width as far as i know. If you go with a hi-ace diff they are 10mm wider. Theres any number of centres available for them

The early, re late 70's hilux were the same width and Spring saddle spacing but pretty rare. My own car has a mid 80's hilux which is 2" wider again and I had to move saddles in but ive still had 205/60 13 on the old kidney style 6x13 alloys with some lip work done. A 90's hilux 2wd diff I picked up has an offset diff centre so a bit beyond a backyard job. Hope that helps. I've been wondering about a mid 80's Toyota crown, apparently same centre as a hilux but has discs, have yet to find 1 though.

I wouldn't have thought a late model disc braked HILUX diff would be under 1400mm ill have to look into it. The other good thing bout the Volvo is the range of good ratios eg 3.7 3.9 low 4's even LSD's via the jeep links
