Did my first hillclimb at collingrove on saturday and after my 3rd run the car would come to a hault when i reversed more than a metre. Thought id play it safe and trailer it home so called it a day. Just as I tried to drive the car onto the trailer I lost all drive to the wheels, with tailshaft spinning still

So I pulled the diff out and this is what it looked like

Yep, those two bolts in the crownwheel were the only ones still in it, although they were only half bolts now
Id sheared off all my crownwheel bolts!

Lucky the gears are still in good nick, hopefully some new bolts and maybe tap to bigger size and she's good to go!

Here is the only vid i got for the day. Car ran like snot with bugger all spark but had a ball anyway! The video doesnt explain how steep it really is.

yep, agree with above,  bolts weren't correctly tightened assuming that those are correct bolts for the job.
Bad luck that it happened at an event, maybe from now on you need to do a skid or two before an event just to make sure it wont let you down :)

Sounds like we should have checked bolt torque before slapping it in Ryan.

Is open wheeler going back in for now or is it slowly becoming the dedicated track car?

No doubt I did plenty of practise skids and was ok, maybe need more "testing" next time :)

Well Rhys I keep telling myself that I should put the open one back but on the other hand I dont want to have to change it before the next hillclimb august... so probably the weldy back in :) Driving the other car a bit more now so wont need to drive it too much
Getting the centre checked out this week so if its fine then itll go back in. Only drove probably 200metres between me hearing something funny and it losing drive so hopefully the metal shavings havent gone through everything yet. Pulled a lot out with a magnet and ran a lot of new oil through the centre which got alot of it out

Yep, this can often lead to premature mechanical failures ;)

Good to see it hasnt only happened to me whooligan

Was a funny sensation, at first I only heard a really faint noise then the diff bound up when i tried to reverse in the pits so i called it a day, wasnt until I tried to drive it onto the trailer it lost drive. Was a pretty uneventful way for it to break.
