Hi all, I know you might be shaking your heads after reading the title but I went to change my oils in the gearbox and diff but I couldn't fine any drain plug on either. I have looked at 2 other MK1 gearboxes and neither of them had drain plugs either.

The diff I just topped up but would like to fully replace however my gearbox oil defiantly needs to be fully replaced as its looking creamy.

How have others replaced their oils?

I had the thought of maybe having a hole drilled in the bottom for a drain plug on both the gearbox and diff but unsure how that might work. Has anyone done it themselves?

Cheers.

I use a Victa drain pump, from the mower section at bunnings. Pump out all you can and refill using 500ml squeezie plastic oil bottle. Yes, filler hole for gearbox is on passenger side

The only thing on the LHS of the gearbox is the filler plug. I have looked at 3 different boxes and their all the same.

I'm thinking this might be what I have to do but would be a lot easier to just unscrew a plug and let it drain out on its own.

What if I chose to get a hole drilled in and a plug installed, could that be a good idea?
