Ceramic coating seems like a bit of overkill to me.  Unless it's a race engine where you are chasing every pony you may be better off spending the money on other areas instead like valve train geometry setup.

Getting the exhaust coated is a good idea though to keep under bonnet temps down.

Good to see you having a crack

Agree with Matt, but I'd spend the ceramic coating money on the exh pipes instead .
It's great ur having a crack at porting B-)

Ok cheers guys,
Getting my head around this now, doing lots of maths trying to suss out lifts, duration, spring rates etc... still a bit at odds with valve length, need more reading.... Learning about cams, wondering if I need, or can find a hollow one? Should I get a blank and get it ground myself? Been on the piper site doing some rough pricing, anyone used them? any good?
I am getting ahead of myself on the coating, I like that it improves efficiency more than anything.... In the meantime I need to go in after work to get a quote in person, unfortunately it will come down to the price at the end of the day...........
Cheers Drew

I've used and highly Recommend Piper Cams and my last hot pinto had a BP320, along with Kent VS9 Valve Springs and s/steel 45.5mm intake And 38.5mm exh valves. A vernier pulley, New followers and spraybar are a must. along with shaving 0.120th off the head , some big home port work with matched inlet and exh manifolds and twin 40 dcoe's the engine achieved 109kw@wheels at 8700rpm .
Your earlier quote of using a FR33 is nearly the same as BP320 where Quoted power starts at around 3500 and using idf's will reduce the power band up top making it a dog to drive. a Piper BP270 or BP285 will work more efficient and better to drive in my opinion . Cheers

Cheers Marty, and everyone else....
I'll be going with piper, fresh cam kit with all the new rockers etc and springs at 240
bp270 cam, factors were...
-Carbs will be a restriction,
- success of my porting
-lower rpm range and a bit more manners
-first time doing this, if I can't make it reliable that counts as a fail...

Still unsure on the valve lengths, may have made a fatal error ordering them too soon, they are 111.5 group 1 size, and on they're way, that could be the budget breaker and a lesson learned....
Any missing pieces of the puzzle so far? Suggestions/ opinions? Am I on the right track?
Cheers again Drew

The valve lengths aren't a problem with only 1mm between them. The machine shop should compensate . .

I thought you were using IDF carbs.  Is that not the case?

Hey Flighter,
Yeah still on the IDF plan, there's been alot of 'sidetracks' building the car but one of the first goals was to build it on carbs... After 18 years we're still a bit nostalgic about that
We popped, spat, farted and learned through side draughts in it's previous guise so I'm looking forward to a new challenge....
The valves arrived this week and I've been doing some extra hours at work so they'll be getting machined in soon, ready for a flow test, to see how successful I've been,.... and to get a final idea on the cam
Cheers Drew..........
