Hey there War,
Can't help with the timing but have a question, is the IDF manifold from Palmside? If so does it have a vacumn outlet for the brake booster?
Cheers Drew........

yes i got the rejetted 44 idfs carbs on the manifold, i drilled and tapped on number 3 round knob thingy, i can take a pic, if you want. I ran the heater hose to the head take off pipe back to the radiator. Just got it running on the week end.

Install the cam at the timing as specified on the spec sheet.  Dyno tests with this cam advanced and retarted 4 degrees, clearly show torque (HP) decreases with these timing changes.
Hope this data assists with your timing choices.

I didn't have a fr33 cam in my motor yrs ago I had a Piper bp320 prolly very similar performance tho, I went with the 112°(I think) full lift as in spec sheet and dizzy timing worked best at 2° btdc. This engine was producing 109kw@wheels at 8900rpm Running twin 40dcoe with 36 chokes. Sold the head to a historic race driver many yrs ago. Hope this helps

depends when it is pinging? your probably going to ping all the time if you run bad fuel, or you put in 4th to labour up a hill in low revs. optimum ignition timing varies greatly from engine to engine.
pinging is bad, and if you do it for too long you are going to put a nice hole in a piston or do some kind of damage. but if you advance it till it pings and then retard it a bit till it goes away, you should be fine, depending on how far you have to retard it of course.

dynos are great for doing ignition timing, and you can change springs to alter advance curves easily id highly recommend it. too much advance on the static timing is going to make it harder to start also.

my ignition timing which i setup on the dyno is pretty well standard as thats what worked best for my engine.
im running 11:1 on 45's with a bf63 cam.
