Hi Guys,

Im looking to put a slightly better stereo in my RS2000. I am lucky to have one that has no speaker holes in the parcel shelf, and no speaker holes in the doors (2 door car).

Im very keen on keeping the car as original as I can (IE making no changes that I cant easily undo), and to that end id like to put some speakers on the rear parcel shelf, and on the front doors, but without cutting any holes anywhere. I don't mind a few screw holes here and there, but definitely no metal butchering.

Does anyone have any brainwave ways of achieving this?.

Thanks guys.

Do you ever have anyone in the back? If not, maybe do a box for your speakers along the lines of a sub box and sit it on the back seat. If you have people in there you could stick it in the boot and still probably hear it

What about just using the existing speaker (or updating it) under the dash top?

I had pods made up years ago that sat out from the bottom of the doors but they kept getting in the way of my legs.

Pods on the parcel shelf are easy.

Going through the same issue at the moment, have 6x9 speakers for the back, looks like we are going to make boxes out of mdf and carpet them and the whole parcel shelf, putting the front speakers in the doors. Replacing the original speaker just doesn't cut it unless you listen to talk radio :-)

I also remember making a backing plate from MDF and mounting the speakers behind the rear seats too.

Was a bit muffled but the base felt good for passengers....

If you have good door cards and parcel shelf I personally wouldn't even drill screw holes in them.

Have you thought about mounting front speakers in the kickpanels? You could get another set to muck around with and mount some 4 inch speakers in there? I say 4 inch because they usually aren't as deep as 6 inch so they would be more of a flush finish and wouldn't get in the way of your feet.

And for the back make your own parcel shelf? I made my own years ago using mdf and some carpet. Then the options for speakers is endless, just buy the ones you want and make the parcel shelf to fit them in.

Then if you wanted to have the car looking original just remove the kickpanels and parcel shelf and chuck in the standard ones.

Cheers, Ryan
