Hi Matt, got your email about this but slack in replying, DONT DO IT,
When it did it aftermarket stuff was very expensive compared to now, but if you must the rods are l16 , few choices of pistons and the crank gets stroked 2mm . Dandy rebores is the place to get the crank done. Keep in mind the pistons dont fit the rods which dont fit the crank so if you cant do some of the machining yourself it will get expensive
Buy reasonably priced aftermarket rods and pistons that fit without modification and then sink your money into the head

Thanks Chris,

It seems guys in Oz don't seem that keen on stroking.

It seems the best way to build an engine is to decide what you want it to do and then select the appropriate cam, as this is ultimately what will decide the engine you have and what is required to build it.

I will keep doing my homework.

Might have a chat to you at some stage.

Did you sell the MK1?

Cheers

Hi Matt
I'm 1 of the few that has done the big bore/stroke Pinto 2186cc. I used 93.5mm Capri 2.8i KS pistons and offset 0.060th/1.5mm on a minter crank...i wanted to go bigger but crank brgs size limited that ! The block was decked err 1.0mm or so, the head had 0.120th/3mm skim, ported at home and bought Burton s/steel waisted stem std valves, Kent FR32 cam with VS9 single v/springs. Twin 40 webers , the motor had very good low down torque....someone in Crafers bought it for $2500 back in 2003 for his cortina !

Thanks Marty,

What rods did you use?

I used normal Pinto rods...shot peened/polished etc.
Another way is to find a std 6cyl 200ci XA Ford motor and pinch 4x pistons and rods from it....though 94mm will be borderline as whether to fit sleeves, the Big ends are smaller allowing for some offset action if i remember correctly....dont quote me on this !

Matt, got mine done by Cavehill Engines in Lilydale.
L24 rods, TR Magna pistons, offset ground crank.

Thanks for that Craig,

Interesting, I haven't heard of using the L24 rods before.

What capacity did this combo give you once completed, and what head work did you have done as well?

What is the engine used for?

As I am just getting some info together for now what was the rough cost for the botom end machining?

You can PM if you prefer.

Cheers,

Matt

I just let Stu do all the thinking, measuring & machining. He worked out the combination & does everything except balancing in-house. I had the engine built in 2006 with the intention of using for club track days but so far have not done one.

Achieved a capacity of 2121cc. Big valve head, double valve springs etc. I reckon it's a great thing to do.
