The link I posted earlier is for an Australian product and it states Diazinon as the ingredient at the top right side of the page. Believe me, they're still selling it. And this is where it's produced http://www.aandc.com.au/narangba.htm

So I'm thinking of moving to Australia from Ireland, is there a class I can go to learn about poisonous things??? what's a redback?

Redback is a beer from Sth Australia. Not as poisonous as the water from Adelaide.[:x)]

Redback beer is actually from Western Australia - Matilda Bay Brewing Company - don't scare potential Irish tourists off Whooligan!! - we've got better beers in South Australia than that stuff!!

As for the water, Adelaide is one of the few ports in the western world where international ships will not take on water, as the quality is so poor - for real! That's why our beers are good, because you certainly don't want to drink the water here

Redback Spiders are fairly small, the body is about the size of a pea on the female - which has the red blaze, while the male is much smaller, and doesn't have the red marking and can be easily mistaken for a harmless spider. You don't want to get bitten by either of 'em - but it's the females that are deadliest. Trouble is, if you see one, there will usually be a lot more of them around that you didn't see

'Tis summer time here now, which means that snakes are out and on the move, too. There's a creek and nature reserve across the road from my place, and Brown snakes crawl out of it from time to time. Mortein doesn't seem to work as well on them though. That's why I have a number of hammers in my toolbox to deal with the wildlife found under the car

Now, don't start me up on Dropbears ...

So these drop bears, they just drop out of the sky? and then the Kangawallafox eats it? or scares it away? does the crocs eat them or scare them? do the redbacks fight the huntsmen like gangs? this is all very confusing....should I bring a stick?

Nah mate, just bring your Escort toolkit with you, assuming that you have a wide array of hammers in it, you'll be just fine

Forget the stick, in a tussle with our wildlife - or even our womenfolk for that matter - the correct size of hammer beats a fine piece of hickory any day of the week.

As for insect sprays, bombs, repellents etc, you can buy any of those at our local supermarkets and be rest assured that they contain toxic chemicals that are banned almost everywhere else in the world. Just like the stuff escort 1600 has used to evict his new owners.

Neale
The main problem with the redbacks is that they live under toilet seats see the culprit in the pic below. It would be pretty bad getting bitten on the bum by a red back while your on the dunny

But good new is red backs usually dont hang around in your car, Huntsmans do & you haven't lived till one of these fall out when you pull the sunvisor down on the way to work in the morning

Well, heck guys, we're doing a lot for tourism on this thread aren't we?

Huntsmen are harmless! Hope you put him back in the garden where they do a lot of good!

Neale - you might get a laugh out of this one - Slim Newton, a C&W singer had a runaway Australian hit record called 'Redback on the Toilet Seat' back in 1972 & 73 - I remember hearing it a lot on the radio as a kid, it was up against all the big pop & rock bands of the time and still got airplay - and three gold records! Google it for the lyrics - it's an Aussie classic often misquoted as being written by Slim Dusty

Edit: youtube link added - it's gold!
