Hi all,
Fitted my vented discs to my MK2 2L struts and noticed some clearance issues with the tie rod ends.
What am I doing wrong here?
I thought it was a bolt on replacement just remove the back plates as they foul the thicker disc.

TIA
Emil

Where did you buy the kit from? May be ask them if they have had any issues. If you had capri struts you could space the steering arm a bit.

Oh Bugger, Does that mean I have to run Solid discs?

You can machine a mm or 2 of the back of the hub, that should do the trick. Caliper spacing should still be close enough

Thanks Phil,
I am thinking now of getting some alloy hubs now , So I will mount up and check clearance.
Wont waste money machining these old hubs.

NOT CORRECT - You can run the standard Gp1/2.8i vented disc with the standard Aussie 2Lt Struts... They do come close to the tie rod end dust boot, but mine do not touch...(miss the dust boot by 2-3mm and more than 8mm clear of the tie rod end....

I have been running standard hubs, with the Gp1/2.8i vented discs for over a decade now and have never had an issue, and having built the struts for the rally car doing the same again I can tell you they DO FIT...

I run the standard hubs, but if you are running alloy hubs or other hubs then that may be what is causing the issues.... Someone else recently on this forum had an issue with the alloy hubs from memory...

PS - WRONG advice is my pet hate on forums such as this, and it can lead to spending too much money on things not neccesary or just plain wrong... I have been got before (And NO Scorpion Strut Tops are not even close to fitting an Escort let along a bolt on job! and NO Mazda wheels are 110mm PCD not 108mm PCD and do NOT fit Escorts!!!!)

Emil,

It looks like you have new tie rod ends fitted, it is possible that they are externally larger around the ball joint. It might be worth taking one off and heading to the parts shop to see if different brands of tie rod ends are different in external size.

Cheers,

Phil.
