hey guys just wondering if anyone knows roughly how much hp a single rail 4speed will take before things go bang. Its freshly rebuilt, say about 500kms ago. All std replacment parts though, no work.

Cheers, Brandon.

It might take 500hp. For a minute or two. (-;

It just depends on how long you want it to last and how you're using it.

Anything over about 150hp and I'd be looking to start strengthening things myself.

Sweet :) that's good. Cause I'm going to build a 2l to go in and hopefully aiming at 160-180hp so I think I might build the motor before putting it in the just before I put it in get the box buil tough.

Thanks heaps.

The stories. Can tell. Don't want to even start.
I lost a selector lever pin at one Jamborree. That's my sore story.

Once you put larger diameter wheels on, the diff center loses it's lunch in sympathy.
At THE same time.
The standard Four speed box is said to handle 180hp. 130rwhp
The right foot is it's destiny.

On another forum (ford forums) some guy says 300 is probably the max you can go for. But he recommends less if ,I quote, "you don't drive like a grandad". So you should be more than fine if the max that you are going for is 180.

Stories? I have stories :)

I've been running one behind a turbo pinto for 10+ years and never broken it. I only rev it to about 6600, and I have heard that revs can kill the boxes. The car only comes out for events and the odd drive to and from an event or quick "test" run about 20 times a year, but does run R comp tyres and has a locked diff.

Last dyno I went on showed 190hp atw.

I think a W50 would be the next step up... I'd also be interested in opinions.

Nahh all good sundowner I'm keen to hear them aswell.

Well I'm gunna try get 200hp but I'll be extremely happy with around 180-185hp.
So I think I might just drop it in. And drive it how I would and when the box breaks then rebuild it I think.

Thanks heaps guys for the post.
Brandon.

They arent work the cost of rebuilding them as there are heaps of them. I have 4 spare standard boxes if you want some back up ...

Hmm truee. But what about building one so it can handle the power? May aswell just build one right the first time and it'll handle the power for a very long time instead of putting another box on every month after blowing the one on there hahah.
And depends on your location? I might be interested in a box maybe.
