To all those interested capri lovers the id plate specifies that it is a model  3218 which is 1972 3000 GT and I have the letter from Ford that there was a mistake on the stamping down the assembly line,  and it should have been CK 17MC but in actual fact it was stamped CK 14 MC and yes the engine is stamped exactly the same as the ID plate and shock tower.

I thought that would be the case. The other instances where I've seen a similar typo on the plate have had the same typo on the engine and strut tower.

Shouldn't be a concern to the new owner.

I think he'll have a ball driving it around, I would. The non-factory things don't really take anything away from the car, and in some cases they'll improve upon it.

Don't worry about what you've done to your van, it's your car (plus I wouldn't know what was supposed to be factory on it anyway).

If he ever wants to find some original bits, there are plenty of Capri guys on here who can help.

Cheers

Sundowner,
i'd be interested to hear the feed back from your uncle on its arrival - i'm pretty sure he'll be very pleased.
On another subject I went to Big Al's Poker run here in perth on the weekend. Its probably the biggest classic car cruise going around (hundreds of cars) but not 1 Capri !!
