Hi Dukess,
I have seen this car in the flesh. It was restored a few years ago and has been at a couple of car shows here in Perth. He has also been on a few Capri cruises. It's a nice Capri - I cant vouch for how good the restoration was but from the surface it looks very nice. There are a few non original items on it as you can see from the photo's but if I was to put a value on it i'd say thats a pretty fair price.

regards Paul

Interesting.....body codes seem to say....
Model 13218 = 1972 GT
Engine P = V6
Trans Y = Auto
VIN CK14MC = Deluxe 4 cyl   (According to a FordForums post) built May 1972
14 = Capri Deluxe Sedan
(17 = Capri GT Sedan either 1600GT or 3000GT and 30 = Capri XL Sedan)
My V6 Capri is CK17xx  13018

whooligan - if you zoom the image up to 200%, you can clearly see VIN = CK14MC..... on that vehicle plate.
(needing glasses to see things encourages this action !!)
But then the same plate says "Capri V/6."  - Typo ex-factory?
I can't read the Paint (?) or Trim (B?) codes clearly.
Apparently, on 1972 cars, the numbers after the CK14MC are the engine number, unlike the earlier Capris.
That reference I found (Thanks Google) on the FordAustraliaForums talks about a Capri with VIN = CK14MC and was posted by Ford3000GT user on 1 Aug 2007.

I'd say the 14 is definitely a stamping error at the factory. It should read CK17MC290??P. The Model code on the ID Plate says it's a Model 13218 which means it's a 1972 Capri V6. The engine number on 1972 models is the whole Chassis (ID Plate) number, ie. CK14MC290??P. A check of the engine number on the right rear of the block will confirm if the ID Plate number is a wrong stamping as the engine number is probably stamped CK17MC290??P. The Engine code P is right for a V6, the trans code Y is right for an Auto, Rear Axle is S, Front Axle is S, Paint should be U (Ultra White) if it's the original colour and the Trim code is B for Black. It all looks OK, just need to check the actual engine number on the block! Potential buyers should get that checked to clarify a wrong stamping on the ID plate.

This car was on Gumtree at the end of last year I think, I can't find the post but the comment was made that it was not unheard of for the wrong numbers to be stamped on the plates.
My 4 cyl 2/71 model No. is 13118

I'll second whooligans suggestion.
I've been running one of those on my MK1 Capri's for ten years.
Modern drivers are used to BIG tailights and centre light in their faces,  and amber front blinkers (fixed by changing only the bulb.
Those Escort tailights are puny and dull by todays standards.

This uncle-purchaser might be 74yo....but is still young at heart !!!  Congrats !!!

Nothing too major, depends on how picky you are. If you were really picky, you'd change:

- twin system exhaust back to factory
- orange side stripes for original colour (probably black)
- window winder handles
- gear knob
- gear stick boot?
- remove silver paint from raised lip of center console
- find some original (or repro original) seat belts
- get the seat bases redone with the join in the correct place
- find a NOS indicator stalk to replace what looks like a Landrover version
- replace the windscreen washer bottle with an original and change the black water lines to clear
- new rear side trims (interior) with ash trays fitted
- paint the top radiator deflector panel satin black
- change back to an auto gearbox if you wanted to
- new swaybar mounting brackets without grease nipple

There is alot of other detail bits to do, like painting engine mounts, starter motor casing, and some other little bits (that I can't remember) in gloss red. The top of the air cleaner also didn't use wingnuts from memory. Then you'd need Motorcraft hoses, belts, spark plugs, oil filter, ignition leads.............just kidding. ;^))

I think it looks like a ripper, and unless you were looking at getting a concourse trophy, drive it as is and enjoy all the jealous looks. I wouldn't let the typo on the compliance plate get in the way, as long as the other numbers check out.

Cheers
Jamie
