I have a 6 dial dash abd the temp gauge doesnt read at all untill the engine is very hot an then only reads around 50%. Im running a 2lt and have chandes the sender unit with the spare 2lt ebgine ubit i have. Could it be the ohms range is wrong ?

There is a big resistance difference from senders that outwardly look the same,also check for bad connections at bulkhead one other thing does the fuel gauge work ok? Both gauges run from the same voltage stabiliser.

The fuel gauge works ok. Well up untill lately. However the temp gauge hasnt worked any good in the time i have owned it, almost 3 years. Do you know what ohm range should it be ? That would i suppose a good easy starting point ?
Actually come to think of it the range on the fuel gage isnt correct. I have just learned to live with it.

The senders are different between cortina, Mk1, and Mk2 Escorts. They all should thread in the same but the resistance varies. Look for the sender for the dash model you have. Pull your fuel sender out and bend the float arm to get it right on the gauge.

Measure the resistance across the sender you have installed presently (engine cold) and post the value here. I have a few units at work with different values (for different pieces of plant equipment) and I will get you one with a lower value than yours to try. You can add varying resistance to a sender with a rheostat then buy a 20cent resistor from richard Smith or Jay car to match the value of the rheostat setting, and then simply solder the resistor into the circuit, but you can’t take resistance out of the sender value.

Ok Hendo thanks for your help. I did today pull the dash partially out and play with the terminals etc. I even swapped them over and the temp gauge did move in the right direction. The connections are a little loose in my opinion. When i get some more time o will attempt to fix this and give everything a good clean and see what happens. the sender has a white ring.
