I was just looking for some information from anyone who has imported a car from the UK and the procedure for getting it onto club rego.

My father-in-law has just brought an E12 BMW in from the UK. He's buggered off up to the Kimberly for a month or so so I was going to try and get it all sorted for him so its ready to go when he gets back.

I have filled out the club rego form and sent it and a valid pink slip off to the BMW club. Its been stamped by them and is in the post on the way back now.

But my question is... Am I able to go to the RTA to collect the plates and fill in any other forms? Or does he need to be there in person to sign things, etc? And is it just a case of presenting all the doco and walking out with some plates, or is there more to it than that? I was just looking to hear about how others have gone getting a UK car sorted for club rego in NSW.

If the car is to be registered in his name then I'm pretty sure his signature will be required on the TA paper work.

Hi I take it you've read this document?

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vehiclesheet/historic_vehicle_clubs_policy.pdf

I think the person who's name the registration is going to be in will need to complete the forms unless they've given you their proxy to do this....even then might not be permissible for someone else to do it.

If the car is post 1985, I think he'll have to conform to a whole lot of other requirements imposed by the feds.

BMW E12 = 1972-1981

Yup, its an '81 E12, so no problems there.

And thanks for the info too. He's actually looking at being back a few days earlier than planned, so he can sort it out himself now! But it looks like he was going to have to be there to sign things anyway.
