Ive had a mega jolt unit and hard ware from a ford ranger kicking around for a while - so decided to set it up. I can off load the dizzy and coil etc if it works but more than that - the set up allows for precise adjustments to advance etc. The idea is u can plug your lap top into the mega jolt and all of the joy comes up on screen. The unit is mounted inside the cabin.

the edis, coil pack, sensor and toothed wheel are from a ford ranger. Fortunately the v6 from the ranger runs the same FO as the essex 142536 - bad news is the essex rotates in the opposite direction. A bit of head ache

Anyway, after a lot of fluffing around: had the harmonic balancer turned down to accept the toothed wheel - then set it up = hopefully correctly - in relationship to TDC, then temporary mounting of the module and coil pack and fixing of the sensor over/against the toothed wheel.
Wired everything up, disconnected the dizzy and by jingo by cricky it worked! The bloody engine ran!
Next hassle was getting it to talk to the computer - brother - but a friend who's into that sort of thing twirled a few knobs and ..

the pic of my computer screen is upside down but u get the idea - this image shows advance revs etc - but u can generate all sorts of guff
the engine did have a miss though - took me 1/2 hr to figure out id set the toothed wheel up 180 degrees out - a bit of re arranging of leads and all is well.

The essex looks wierd without the dizzy cap and leads .. Now i have to get used to the computer and set up process but hopefully all fun.

edis nearly finished - still have to refine the map but works well. The auto elec wired up one wire back to front so the megajolt unit did not allow the engine to advance - sorted now - obviously. There was noise in the wiring - so had to re-shield the loom.

the car on the dyno - ironing out wiring issues

megajolted Essex - removing the distributor had the added advantage of being able to move the front carby forward - directly over the intake ports for 1 and 4.
