Hi
 
I've got a broken door lock actuator in the rear passenger door of my Ford Territory, not normally too much of a problem but it broke with the door locked shut! I can't remove the trim to get at it with the door shut but can access the hinges with the front door open...thinking of unbolting the hinges, removing the door, remove trim, fix actuator ......any advice please??

no too much help here, but I'd imagine unbolting the hinges of the door will only loosen the hinged end of the door, the lock itself will still be secured about the lock post not getting you anywhere, still in doing that you might be able to losen the trim, which is what you need to do, to get to the actuator mechanism.

Sorry it was my first instinct after only owning two cars with two doors each and no central locking I'm a simple guy. Id ring up Ford ask how they do it, you can't be the first.

No the hinges won't work, you'd be better off removing the seats to get access to the panel and fixing the actuator. Not sure what your problem is exactly but I've browsed solutions relating to shoving a wire down the windoor and catching the door opening lever. But I would recommend going on Google and searching for something like "opening a jammed car door" I guarantee hundreds of people have had this problem before you. Maybe not the same car, but there should be similarities.

Thanks for the ideas.
Called ford and told them my wife was stranded with the kids; i'm told there is no quick fix open the door method but bring it in and they will gouge me for fixing it up.
Had a bit of a look over the Ford forum, plenty of broken actuators but none with the door locked. Comparatively there seems to be a lack of technical/practical knowledge, hence the post on here.
I'm reluctant to unbolt the hinges because it doesn't look like it'll work; the striker bar is mushroom shaped to prevent you from removing the door when locked. If it does work then you've got the problem of re-aligning it.
Which leaves.....remove all of the other trim to access the screw in the end of the door (Good idea)
I'll keep you posted

Well would you believe it. 2 mins in the Ford dealership and they sorted it. Didn't see what they did to get it open but they tell me it's because the lubrication schedule had been overlooked by non-ford servicing.....didn't realise they lubed the door lock linkages. No broken actuator after all

Sounds like a bit of "blame the non genuine repairer" for not following the schedule when it probably had nothing to do with the crap design!

look at the inside of the other door and work out how to open it with some wire then bo the same thing to the door you have locked
