The latest Shannon's auction lists a Lime Glaze 1973 V6 Capri, guide price $45k - $55k. The car was sold by Thompson Ford in Sydney in May 1973. I presume that it's not correct to call it a 1973 model as the VIN plate says 11/72. Could this car have been sitting in the dealership for 5 months before being sold, if so it must have been one of the last, if not the last V6 to sold in Australia (not including RS3100's)? Maybe it was used by a Ford employee and sold as a demo? The colour is interesting, I've never seen it before, fairly rare I would think. It looks like a mistake by Shannon's to call it a 73 when the VIN says 72?
I'm hoping some of you Capri gurus out there can clarify details on this car ie did Capris sit in dealerships for this long before being sold, just out of interest.
There is also a vermillion fire 71 V6 listed for $35k - $45k, auto though.

I'd say ur on the money with it "laying around" till sold in 73. If stamped 11/72, the sale could have gone thru just 32 days later to give the Dealership the temerity to deem it a 1973 vehicle, as was and probably still is, their wont !
 
What I reckon is HEAPS more important, is to see if any 72/73 Capri pops up for sale has a "D" Port engine in it,
plus does it happen to be one of the 11 "Specials" ?
Have you seen any ENG or Chassis numbers (should be the same) quoted Timmo ?

This car is not one of the eleven uprated cars . 
A knowledge of the vin indicates 3 dates with the 11/72 one being the date of the final work done of fixing the vin plate.
Ford had several accounting systems to ensure type ,identity compliance and to make sure no cars went missing.
11/72 was officially the end of production but I know of several guys with ford letters saying that their car was built in january 73.
This lime glaze example presents well. I think the fact that the pics are taken in a white room has fooled the camera into thinking that the colour is a pastel. Anyway for some reason the colour looks softer.  Still more restoration work to be done.

Like a number of Capri 280 'Brooklands', people try to say they are 1987 or 1988 models when they were all built and completed in December, 1986, hence the coding for year and month of GG.
 
Our Australian production, according to Homebush factory records, ended in November, 1972. Sure, some may have been first registered in 1973, but that doesn't change the fact that they are 1972 models! The last of our Capri's are all coded ME where the year is 1972 and the month is August! Yet there were still cars rolling off the line in September, October and November. Confused, so are we!
 
Lime glaze was a popular colour and many examples still exist on the east coast, if not in the West.

Thanks for the info Terry. I would have thought a company with Shannon's resources and experience would have got this right. I think that what Ronsmallford mentioned about the photos being taken in a white room changed the look of the Lime Glaze, I realize now that I have seen quite a few in this colour.
Is the glovebox on the passenger side a standard feature? I have only seen parcel trays on Capris.
I'd still be interested to know if this was the last V6 Capri sold in Australia though, just curious.
Can't believe it's over 2 years since Capriciation, that was one of the best long weekends I've ever had!!!

I'd never seen a Capri with a glovebox either.
 
Pity the wheels trims were not painted with the blackouts after chroming.
New exhaust, straighten up the passenger side headlight trim, and a few bits and pieces and good to go.
I lost my ash tray somewhere 20 years ago when it was stripped own.
It used to just have Kitten Apple air fresh granules in it anyhow, but I miss the ashtray..

Timmo, Shannons accept what they are told by the owners, simple as that. 
As far as I know, no Mk.1 Capri worldwide ever came with a glove box. Perhaps borrowed from another vehicle and grafted in, like some cars delivered without a floor centre console.
One of the last eleven Capri 165bhp 'Specials' has two ID Plates that were only used from 1973 onwards. I wonder if any other Capri has that? If there are no Capri's coded with ML, MY or MS, being Sept, Oct & Nov 1972 codes, then all Capri's from August through to November are coded ME. With that in mind, there were 357, 1600 Deluxe, 1600XLs and 3000GTs assembled during that period. It is impossible to know which one of those 357 was the last one completed or the last one sold or the last one registered.
55 year anniversary coming up in 2024, perhaps we could do it all again!

Terry, I know of the special with the two id plate system of 1973 and i dont know what the compliance date says. The only reasons I can think of for this anomaly are that the correct plate got damaged or went missing before being applied. If the correct plate wasnt applied come january 73 someone might have gotten confused and typed a new one of the 73 twin plates and fitted that.
Problem here is that the twin plates contain more ADR requirements and the mk1 capri does not comply with them, oops this is serious stuff. Thats why the capri end of production month chosen was before jan 73.

G'day Ron. I've just checked the plates and all the ADRs listed are exactly the same as the 1972 plates. These 1973 plates did not have the ADRs already engraved in the printed plate, they were all added later, by hand or machine. So, the 7 new ADRs introduced in Jan, 1973 are not listed and so there isn't a problem. The compliance date month and year read 8/72, so all appears legit.
