Try a steering repair company.
Also your local spare parts shop should still be able to source them.
 
 

I agree with Flighter. I got Firstline boots and a rack bushing repair kit for mine from SMCKA.  Good fit and quality and holding up well, mine is a quickrack.  Don't know what sort of gear the new guy running SMCKA has got on the shelf but worth a call if he is sticking with  the same gear Steve used to deal in.

I've used these before and are a good orig fit. As for lube, I've always used lithium grease during assembly mixed with a small amount of gear oil tipped in once the boots are zip tied . Are you using those alloy rack mounts , they may need a slight brush with the file to fit good. .due to the casting on the rack they rarely lock in, also go longer bolts .i used 25mm 8.8 tensile Allen bolts on my van just to be awkward!

Thanks guys. Ended up using a lithium based grease used on airbrake equipment at work. I would think it's very similar in consistency Marty so it's slightly tacky and will stay put and not runny like an oil.

Had a discussion with Mike from Yesterford as I want a set of rack boots to fit so I can complete the rack. He insists that he fits the ones he stocks to all Escort racks without a problem however the dimensions he states are similar to the ones that I have which I think are too small.
Has anyone purchased a set from Yesterford?

Sorted with the ones from RD as I just wasn't trying hard enough 🙄

Update. The RD ones fit but I think they're too short as on full lock the boots were quite stretched and to the point they restricted rack movement. Therefore the ones I ordered from Yesterford were overall larger and longer. Fitted up and much better plus they appear much better quality and far more supple. Images attached of brand and part #.
