Hi all,
does anyone know if a gasket is standard between Bell Housing and Gearbox on my 1972 V6 4 speed with external side selectors.

Funny thing I noticed: Even without gasket, the 4 "pcd" holes on the Bell Hsg, holding box to bell, are around 0.100" higher than the 5th bolt hole lower-most, that also holds box to bell................wtf?
This "distortion maker" can't be designed for real? I reckon a fibre washer is meant to go there to avoid oil leak. So if a gasket is meant to go around the other 4 box-to-bell bolts, this fibre washer for Hole 5 would need to be thicker than 0.100"...........................anybody know facts please ?

The next to useless Genuine Shop manual hasn't a single word or picture re all above !!!!!!
.......just like it DOES NOT give "end float" specs of Primary Input Shaft/Gear, and not even a picture of throwout bearing, or Throwout Lever, or specs re these items and relationship to Bell Hsg.

...........cheers for any help

I'm 99% sure there isn't a gasket between bell housing and gearbox ,Mine hasn't .
Your rest of problems just bolt up she'll be sweet.

Capri parts book does not list a gasket between Bell Housing/Gearbox for V6.
As you probably know V6 gearbox uses a LHD Mk3 Zephyr case fitted with Mk4 Zephyr internals.
MK3 Zephyr workshop manual gearbox overhaul section says to use sealant on the 3 input shaft retainer bolts and the 5 bell housing bolts which also indicates no gasket.

Many thanks Phil..............much appreciated. Lovely parts Diagram. Can I buy emailed copies off you of all the V6 Eng and Tranny and maybe rest of car too ?

I decided to err on the side of safety by making a gasket for this area along with copper washer at lowest bell hsg bolt #5, as I suspect Box is overdue for Major Overhaul and may be coming out again in the near future.

If anyone has NEW Selector Rods and end clips, Selector Cams x3, Synchro Rings x4, Sprags, needle bearings and Sychro Drums/Sliders, etc please let me know else I may need a Dellow Adapt Plate for a Falcon T5 out of XF that I've had in stock for years complete with FW, Clutch Kit, Throwout lever, x-member, etc, I pretended I may need one day for an ESP or some other worthy Ford Project.
9 years ago I sold a Chrysler 318 and Torq-Flite out of an VF s/w I parted out in 1977..........!
30 years of storage as I knew how much $ the previous owner spent on it, but in the end never used it as my AP5 1965 Regal PBA, which never came in V8 in Australia as in USA, PLUS some Chrysler Enthusiast paid me drug money for it that any sane person could not refuse: paid for my 9/72 GTv6 Delete CK17ME driveable car you see inset, with oodles left over!.......good move: The 318 just "sat on the floor", whereas the Rare Capri is able to be driven and enjoyed.
Merry Xmas all

Last week I asked Dellow for prices on conversion kit for putting an XF FALCON T5 in my Essex V6..............just the necessary items WITHOUT THE ACTUAL GEARBOX, came to $2000.oo.......no prizes for guessing who's keeping the old gearbox till he comes across a used Conversion Kit!

Hi BV. What actually do you think is wrong with the original box?

Thanks Ron. ........
re my Gearbox, it'll need Synchros & baulk rings at very least. Input Shaft Needle Bearings are quiet but feel a little worn but still in spec. When I drive like it has no synchos at all, by double de-clutch action, she runs beautifully. Reverse gear is almost impossible if I dont squirt-rev the engine and try gently, but still get gear clash. There's a good chance that my high idle speed of 1200 rpm isn't helping, which I will address as soon as I ensure Valve Clearances are correct as I may have set them too wide to err on side of safety while "running in" (eng has only done 150km since recent overhaul) . My Selector Gate Assembly is very worn and sloppy. Clutch adjustment is correct. No noises in any gear at all. Running basic EP90/140 oil. If my adjustments as above dont improve matters, one last chance could be changing oil to a Castrol Product which has worked on a few client's cars with similar problems. I began questioning myself after wondering if I had ANY issues at all when I drove it home from Ballarat 4 years ago. 90% sure I didn't. All I've done is replace all Oil seals and Gaskets.
With the accel/decel test in all gears, gearshift moves minimally and quite normally. All other bearings felt normal when I tested them.
cheers and thanks for asking,
Bernie

Running basic EP90/140 oil.

That sounds like axle oil, which I wouldn't recommend in a gearbox. Don't you need SAE80W in a Capri box? If so, it should probably be a proper GL-4 rated oil  too (not to be confused with so-called GL-4/GL-5 or GL-5 oils, which aren't at all the same, and can eat the brass components).

Bernie,
Is the clutch plate fully released when the clutch pedal is fully operated?  How do you know it is?
