Hi guys,

I've got an issue of flat (completely dead) battery after a couple of days of not driving my Mk1.

Battery is new but tested another to be sure.

Any ideas of what could be causing the issue?

Thanks,
Rhys

Thought that was usually caused by a bad earth...?

Is the battery new? Is it charging properly? A bad earth as Len suggested will prevent proper charging, but if it is only after a few days i would first check the charging system and load test the battery, after that i would disconnect the battery for a few days then reconnect and try to start. If all that is fine i would disconnect everything that is connected to acc power and wait again.Tidy up any wiring that isnt factory standard (it will make your life easier down the track too). Without being hands/eyes on thats about all i can  suggest.

It's a good idea to isolate as much as you can but what you also can do is when putting the terminal back on the battery do it slow and check for a spark jumping. Also another thing I have done is I used a old amp gauge and bridged between the + terminal and the cable, check for a movement in the needle. Could also use a multimeter. This would give you a idea of how big a current draw you have.

alternator getting hot with ignition off?

I had this problem and it was apparently my alternator which was wired up wrong resulting in it drawing power from the battery when the ignition was turned off.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Battery is new and holds charge in my Anglia no problems.
I put multimeter on it and pulled fuses one by one, no change, then I disconnected Alternator and then starter doesn't seem to change.

Its had three different alternators on it in the time I have had this issue so doubt it could be that.

I just changed a dicky starter on it but have not left battery connected since.

I might look to an autoelec for help as my fuel and temp gauges don't work either.

Cheers

Do you have doof doof fitted ie hard wired amps. These will draw from battery if wired straight from battery
