Is there a difference between, starter motors for TC TD TE Cortina's and Mk 2 Escorts fitted with Pinto engines? Since fitting a pinto to my Mk 1 Escort, to remove the stater motor I have had to remove the solenoid as it doesn't clear the standard cross member. It has become time to renew the starter motor as since modifying the engine it has difficulties cranking the engine and just lets out this whirring sound a couple of times before throwing out and cranking the engine. I'm looking at purchasing a new Hitorque starter off Feebay and was a bit worried that I will be removing the solenoid to replace the starter motor

Cortina starter motors are longer [same as used in the Falcon] the Escort starter is shorter. You can fit a cortina unit but you need to remove the engine mount to install.

Yeah cortina and some transit starters will fit with a bit of messing around. Its getting harder and harder to get your hands on anything escort related these days

I don't think it matters if you use a Cortina starter or escort pinto starter , yes you still need to lift the engine a little once the rubber mount nut is removed or take the mount off completely .
As for reduction drive high torque starters , they are just longer than the solenoid . There is a shop in usa of all places , that sells them for $180 , But i never bought one to rate it.

you can also get a laser (bosch) starter and just fit the escort front housing if you want it to be like the short escort version
