Hi All
Am I able to do a compression test on an engine out of the vehicle, I have a crossflow of unknown origin and believe its had work done but to get it in my escort got to change sump etc (from a tina) so would like to check what I can before I spend lots of time on it.

Just plug the compression meter into the spark plug hole and turn the engine by hand if you can support it.

You may need a mate to give you a hand.

Cheers,

Matt

Sure can. Just connect a battery to the starter positive & earth to the engine block, then it's as easy as using another wire to activate the solenoid while the compression tester is fitted. Make sure you crank it the same amount of time for each cylinder so as not to get false readings. Be ready for it to dance around a bit.
Craig.
