Hello

Long time and no activity from me, anyhow I am back into working on the car and have an issue with my throttle cable/bracket.

  • I have broken the little clip that holds the throttle cable to the bracket on the manifold, does some one have such a clip?
  • The existing throttle cable looks like a 2lt escort item with 2 adjusting nuts and a threaded section to adjust the overall length, but it did not fit the now broken clip.
  • Were there different types of throttle cable/bracket produced and if so the best type/combination is?
  • Finally does some one have the best combination of bits they are willing to part with??
regards

I have just switched back to the weber setup and my clip has one arm broken as well.  I have been watching ebay UK but no luck yet and I cant find any other cars that use the same clip.  I got a new cable from ebay UK.  The fittings are correct but its too long so I had to tie it off to the brake lines until I get motivated to get to that painfull screw behind the booster to get it out and have it shortened.  But also the outer lining is very hard so the clip doesnt bite into it that well and it slips.  Thinking I might have to make up a bracket that can be screwed down to clamp it better.

The facelift, MK2 and MK3, 3litre capris had an uprated bracket and cable.  The bracket is one piece and the cable screws in and is adjustable, no clip, much better.  Here's one for sale

GTV6,

I know this is not the most glamorous of fixes but I have re used the existing bracket. All I have done is bend the existing bracket where the clip mounts at 90 Deg toward the carby, I then drilled a hole and slotted into that with a hacksaw. This has given me a slot to pass the throttle cable down into the hole and the hole has given me the ability to use the two nut arrangement to secure the the outer sheath of the throttle cable nice and solid. Basically it now looks pretty much like a 1600 GT type mount, not the type that comes off the rocker cover but the type that is fitted direct onto the inlet manifold. Similar to the 2lt Escort setup.

Whooligan,

A very fair point you have made. I have a throttle return spring installed and I have made dam sure that every thing is free and working as it should. Last thing I want is a stuck throttle and no insurance..........
