As a matter of interest, On my white Capri (now sold) I put high powered globes in it and put the relay inside the grill just to the right, on the battery side. This made the wire from the battery to the lights very short which I would presume to be better - I'm certainly no expert on auto electric, but I had it like this for years trouble free with very bright lights..

Congrats JR on finding the gremlins.  Wiring issues can be 'challenging' to resolve.

Another approach is to use Xenon filled H4's, but keet the wattage at 60/55W and , importantly, Xenon colour temp at 4300K (degrees kelvin).  Just like daylight with no extra drain.  Other brands around these days offering more light for same power drain (just done my daughters WQ Fiesta as a Xmas present).... a wide range available at OhSoCheap store.

CapriClinic also offer a kit of two relays to 'splice' into your existing loom near the fuse box, without chopping your existing wiring.  I have one and works fine - shows some thought had gone into working out the wiring setup for the relays for this solution.  Turns the headlight/dip switch into a simple low drain 'signal' arrangement for the relay.
(Don't we all love the way the smoke comes out of the wiring insulation sometimes !!!  And unexplainably !!)

Mmmmm food for thought I'll jump onto Kevs site and have a little look, makes perfect sense to have a relay especially if you don't have to cut and shut wiring.  The globes in it are standard H4 60/55 regulars, I don't plan on night driving....

Without a relay the load also goes through the ignition which is why they always melt, which is why in winter with the wipers and heater going, the key gets really hot.  IMO put relays on the wipers and heater as well.

Can't seem to get the Capri Clinic site to load, I get the old fire page from years ago, but anything to do with the parts crashes

Woo Hoo I have a valid RWC, and now I have Classic Reg, bolted on the plates in the Vicroads carpark and cruised home.  What a relief I can now drive it at my leisure
