Hi, just trying to get an escort reigstered, and i need the engine number. I had a look and couldnt see anything. Where abouts is it on a 1600? I found a number, but im sure that isnt it (exhaust side , low on block, large raised letters/numbers)

Also, if it is the original engine(which i suspect it is), what part of the VIN is the engine number? the VIN is CK5PUG *****A

Thanks, Tom

On the top of the block there is a ledge on the passengers side the engine no. is originally stamped there BUT if the engine has been decked the no. goes with it. I have 3 1600 blocks none of which have a no. there, 2 have it stamped above where the oil sended is screwed in and 1 has it on the front of the engine below the thermostat housing.
The no. will be STAMPED not raised, these are just casting numbers with the type of block & such.

Try the top if it is not there just keep looking it took me about 3 weeks to find mine under the grease & crap

good luck

went to register it today and just coppied the vin number. that was good enough for them, and seemed to match what they had on the computer, so its now registered.

Thanks. Tom

haha, there was some weird stuff on my rego cert when I first bought my escort. Vin number was the rego number and engine number was 'a' vin number, but didn't match the one on the car.

So I took the car into qld transport, had the vehicle inspected and had VIN and engine numbers changed accordingly. It helps to have the correct numbers if the car ever gets stolen, or if there's an accident and insurance want to squirm out of it on a technicality (numbers incorrect)
