I have seen two types of strut mounts on the capris, as shown in the attached photo (I cant figure out how to make it show up inline)

Does anyone know why there is such a difference in the top part of the mount is and what affect it has on handling?

Motomobil are selling remanufactured ones like the one on the left, but the one on the right is what my car has so I'm not sure about changing them.

The one on the right is the original fitment to capris and escorts 69 to 72.
The one on the left is later and fitted to escorts from about 73 on.
The main reason they find their way onto capris is that the early one would be very hard to find new.

The simple cone shaped one comes in two bore sizes - 1/2" and 5/8".
I believe the early V6 came with the 5/8" bore, the 4cyl 1/2" bore.  But I have seen fitted 1/2" bore on V6 cars.
I'm also aware that (apparently) Escort ones have 'large' pcd (early) and 'small' pcd (later/MK2) variations. All Capri I've seen have been 'large' pcd.
Would be interesting to know whether the later Mk2 or Mk3 capri came with 1/2 or 5/8" bores, and what style.
So...not as simple as one might imagine.

And the science around the different shapes may or may not be inportant for everyday use. (no idea myself).

At the end of the day, if your existing srtut top is about to let go and add some ventilation to your bonnet, do you really care what style they are? 'Tho matching would be nice....

The one on the left is from a mk2 ex UK and is 5/8" bore.  The other is from my 72V6 and is 1/2" bore, but suspect they are not original.  But I did buy inserts for a 72 V6 and they came as 1/2"

I am more curious about the ride quality, and ability to carry the weight of the V6, but I dont think I have much choice except to buy the newer style, which are available in both bores.

What is also interesting is that even though the mk2 bore is larger, the mk2 top plates have smaller holes and will not fit over the inserts.  Same for escort top plates, they dont fit.
