I have never been of fan of the RS, ugly back end, ugly dash, so I would vote for a GT, but not one with a sun roof - you will spend enough time chasing oil leaks so you dont want water as well, and not at that price. Even if you dont paint it yet, there's lots of $$$$ to spend on the engine, brakes and master cyl will be stuck, shocks, bearings, seals, radiator, fuel pump, fuel lines and tank clean, exhaust, decent mags, rego hassles, and I would be amazed if the sill trim hasnt caused the usual rust. I would want to confirm eng number and know what it was bored to when he rebuilt it. 40thou is absolute max for me as next bore would most likely take it to 60 which is the limit. 350 Holley run too rich on these, the weber will most likely need some work and will also need the original linkage and insulator plate. State of inlet manifold would be a concern. The one of gumtree for $8500 is probably better value - if the body work has been done right. A$16k head start for new paint & new engine, the rest of the work would be the same. It would be a lot cheaper project. I looked at the green one in WA for $10k a couple of weeks ago. I reckon the red one looks a lot better so maybe worth around $15k if numbers match and not much rust. I hope he does get a good price though, will set a bench mark for the rest of us.
