old capri v6
Hi guys,
Up to the wiring stage with the old V6 Mk1, has anyone got some sketches or photos of relays put into the ignition and headlights circuit. Reading through the old comments, most seem to be in the engine bay but I would like to put them inside the car.
Any info, photos, sketches or diagrams would help,
Cheers Mark

My headlight relay is in the engine bay near the battery.  That is because its large, is easy to connect up with the fuse wiring, gets full power from the battery and minimises the length of wire from relay to the lights.   Much easier than messing around with the ignition switch wiring.

Consider fitting relays to the heater fan and wiper motor as well.

Nothin worse than seeing a gaggle of modern looking relays in the engine bay of a capri.
Im no electrician but I did this:
First reco original wiring loom so there is a base to work from.
Then I installed relays for high and low beam, driving lights, rad fan together with a fuse block behind the grille on the left side,(plenty of space in there). Then supplied a positive from a kill switch fitted beside the battery. The original loom is connected to the switching side of the relays instead of the lights etc. The extra wires have their own loom taped in a color to match the car so they dont stand out.
Then inside, if the plastic panel on the passenger side dash is removed there is a great space for another set of relays and fuse block to take care of things such as Ice, electric fuel pump, heater fan, wipers and whatever.
The way its done is the original wiring is totaly stock and could be easily put back to standard if anyone really wanted to.
Draw it all out on paper first and work out the wire sizes and fuse amps and so its understandable and easy to do the installation.
Cheers,ron.

I agree with that.  The sparky that did mine put the relay too close to the battery making it a pain to remove the battery, and he did a messy job at the fuse box.  I agree too that the smaller relays for heater, wiper etc can be under the dash, and if you have a thermo fan, definatley run it via a relay.  Car is not here but will post a photo of where not to put the headlight relay over the weekend.

I think the Capri Clinic did a "plug and play" headlight relay.
