its around at the other house - ill take some more pics and youll see what i mean by rust - its sacreligious to chop something as original as this up - but wait till u see it - the pics dont show how bad it is. the last v6 i did - i spent 6 days odd doing the rust so im not afraid to tackle them. yes the drivers weather shield - ive scaved it for another v6 im doing - really quaint - but its the 1981 rego sticker - how long is it since!  - its sad it was left out - it might be good to just clean it, vacuum it, and leave it as is - it has a magic of its own - a different kind of resto....

heres another one ive scaved - 72 v6 - ive stripped most of it - this one is really nasty! a king hit in the drivers side! The a pillar has been pushed into the footwell to he point where the tunnel is badly creased. Still i suppose - if u stretched it on a jig - professionally - and inserted a new a pillar and part floor pan - but even the front inner guards r misaligned..i love the eliminators!

Glad to hear the 1st one has been saved from scrap metal yard.

This QLD one above probably isnt that bad, I cant see any holes and the metal in those days was so thick that the rust would probably clean up ok.

What a waste

Maybe this might motivate someone to save it, these are pics of an MG that I rescued.  The rust isnt as bad as it first looks.

This pic of the guard partly cleaned is after an acid wash, no sanding yet.  Then a quick sand before going off for blasting.  I like to clean it up first.  The less work they do they less heat they put into the panels.  (sorry but I cant figure out how to put the pics inline)

There are two approaches used when considering whether to restore a car:

1. The Logical Approach
Will it be even vaguely worth the $$ I need to spend on it, incl purchase cost.

2. The Suffer-For-Your-Art Approach  (aka Hip Pocket Trauma Syndrome)
Logic is out the window,
no one can convince you of the folly of your pursuit,
and some even insanely agree with you (i.e. they want one too! Preferably yours....)

Browse the UK sites and read their magazines.
It's truly amazing what some people think is worth saving.  I do know people ship rusty Escort Mk1 shells back to England, because at least most of it is still there, and not just red dust on the floor.

I've mixed feelings about seeing cars like this, sad they were left to get that far but happy they're still alive....
I agree with the 'graveyard' and 'suffer for your art ideas' cars like this are few and far between, we may pass them up now but further in the future when current stocks run out they may be viable again....
I'll be looking for another project in a year or two and would consider a mighty V6 GT even a basket case......

The way I look at it is if I am going to respray a car, then it will have to go back to bare metal and I will probably find lots of bog and chicken wire anyway, so ones that are just covered in surface rust are not that much more work but can be bought a lot cheaper.  Same for the interior, most cards are no good so the cost to start with nothing is not much more.

Ones with big holes like in the OP are a different story, but I prefer so see them broken up for donor parts to help save another rather than just scrapped.

My capri is painted, rego'd and drivable, but is worse than the MG, its full of bog and fibreglass - I put it there when I was young and stupid. Now I am older and still stupid I will do it right this time....soon I hope.
